Week 7

Happy Friday! This week has been busy, exciting, and furry. The pet show was a blast today! We saw so many dogs, cats, fish, turtles, and snakes. Katie and I loved seeing big smiles on our students and guests faces getting to meet all the fluffy friends. We applaud our fourth graders as today was the first day of perspective students shadowing fourth graders. They gave them tours, introduced them to teachers, and had a yummy lunch. Our students are eager to see who comes next! A reminder next week we do not have school on Thursday and Friday!

What a week in science. The highlight would have to be the cow eye dissection! All the students participated and were in awe of what they discovered. They were able to take what they learned in class and see in person what it looks like on the inside. Students will get their science tests back on Monday! Our next unit is Soundwaves. Please make sure you are working on your childs multiplication fluency at home! We are starting to work with bigger numbers and the students are starting to see the struggles of not knowing their facts. This week we have focused on solving 2 digit by 3 digit multiplication using different methods. I will be sure to post a picture of all the methods next week.

Graded work was given back today! Assignments that need corrections are stamped in the top right corner. On assignments that need corrections, I white out the overall grade so students are not discouraged, and instead focus on relearning and understanding the material. The highest grade on the assignment students can earn for corrections is a 70%. All corrections need to be completed before Wednesday 10/11 (end of quarter one). Corrections may be completed at home or in the mornings before school.

I'm very proud of 4WR for their hard work this week in ELA. We learned about 1st person, 2nd person, and 3rd person point of view- including the three different types of 3rd person point of view! We discussed how a big part of fourth grade is being able to defend WHY you've chosen an answer. The kids took a quiz today in which they had to read a passage, decide the point of view, and defend their decision. This topic is no easy feat and I applaud the ways 4WR engaged with the work. Next Tuesday (10/10), we will have a writing test over point of view. If your student will be out of town please plan to send them in the morning of 10/17 to make it up.
