Week 26
We are excited to have everyone back from Spring Break. We hope everyone had wonderful trips. The students stories sounded wonderful. A few reminders. We do not have school Friday March 29th. Fifth grade is collecting books for Book’em. The deadline is March 27th.
This week in math we started our unit addition of fractions with common denominators. Once students fully grasped the concept we took it up a notch and had them add mixed numbers. 4R and 4W were feeling confident with their math work so we moved on to addition of fractions with different denominators. Today we worked on subtraction of fractions with common denominators. Next week we will continue our topic of subtraction with fractions as well as subtracting fractions with mixed numbers. Be on the lookout for graded math journals from our lessons. We are also doing a “March Mathness” in class. Students will be learning about decimals and graphing with the help of basketball!
In science we wrapped up our discussion and lab work on chain reactions. Students had a blast trying to create their own chain reaction with a partner. The students learned a lot about being patient. They all ended the lab with smiles and joy. Next week we will be discussing electrical energy. We will create LED flashlights to help us understand this process.
Happy Friday

This week students researched and selected the person they will be researching for the Biography Project. Students are eager to dive into their research with note taking, paragraph writing, and speech writing! We are so excited for you to join us at the Biography Fair on April 24th at 9am.
Students received their final ISG for Tale of Despereaux today. ISG #5 is due on Wednesday, April 3rd. Students will have their final vocabulary quiz for the Tale of Despereaux novel on Tuesday, April 2nd.
Be on the lookout for more graded work coming home on Thursday.
Have a great weekend!
