Week 23
Happy Friday! A few reminders. Friday March 1st is a casual dress. February 29th (10:15-11:45) we will be taking Harris Hillman iceskating at Sportsplex. Our 4th graders will be paired up with Harris Hillman students on the rink. Please do not worry if your child is not a good ice skater. Parents are welcome to come and watch or (if you are an ice skating pro) come help push Harris Hillman students around the rink. If your child has skates they are more than welcome to bring them, even better if they have helmets too! Lastly, please make sure March 6th (6:30PM) is marked on your calendar. Our 4th graders will be performing “Humble Roots to Sequined Suits” in Frist Hall. Students should dress in their best country attire. Please make sure your child is working on their lines.
It’s been an incredible week! We've achieved so much together. Remember, parent signature sheets are due on Monday.
In our math sessions this week, we delved into the topic of mixed numbers and improper fractions. Once students grasped the concept, we put their skills to the test by practicing placement on a number line. I'll have those quizzes graded and returned by Monday in preparation for the Fractions test scheduled for Wednesday.
Our science lab was equally engaging. We're wrapping up the current topic and gearing up for an exciting experiment: "Could you knock down a building using only dominoes?" The students will be thrilled to participate in this hands-on lab.
As we move forward, I encourage students to dedicate some time to study their science vocabulary flashcards at home. A pop quiz on science vocabulary is just around the corner, so let's be well-prepared!
Happy Weekend!

Hello Wonderful Grade 4 Families,
First Book Club: Amazing Time Together!
Our first book club was so much fun! We talked about the book, enjoyed some special snacks, and shared in community. We loved it so much, we're having another next week! Book Club #2 on Friday, March 1st! Their ISG (Independent Study Guide) is due on the same day. Your child received the packet today, and I'm excited to see their work! Please be sure students are completing this work on their own. As a reminder, Tale of Despereaux does not count towards minutes for their reading log. Those are two separate assignments.
Vocabulary Quiz: Date Change!
Just a little update – the vocabulary quiz we were going to do on Friday is now on Monday, March 4th. It gives us more time to practice and be extra ready. Thanks for understanding!
Current Read-Aloud: Chains - Loving It!
We began reading our new read-aloud Chains, this week. The kids are L O V I N G it! I've heard that it is many student's favorite time of day.
Social Studies
Students have greatly enjoyed learning about the lost colony of Roanoke! They created 'missing person' posters for the colonists and summarized their theories on the disappearance. Students will have an assessment on Tuesday 2/27 over the first English attempt at establishing a colony in the New World. Students will also complete a writing activity next week over the same information.
