Week 22

Hello fantastic 4th grade families! The play is over and it is time to get back to business. Once again, let’s kickstart our blog post with a handful of essential topics. First, Friday (2/23) is a casual dress day since we will be watching a teaser of the Middle School play for our assembly. Second, on February 29th (10:15-11:45) we will be taking Harris Hillman iceskating at Sportsplex. Our 4th graders will be paired up with Harris Hillman students on the rink. Please do not worry if your child is not a good ice skater. Parents are welcome to come and watch or (if you are an ice skating pro) come help push Harris Hillman students around the rink. If your child has skates they are more than welcome to bring them, even better if they have helmets too! Lastly, please make sure March 6th (6:30PM) is marked on your calendar. Our 4th graders will be performing “Humble Roots to Sequined Suits” in Frist Hall. Students should dress in their best country attire.

Happy Friday! I want to say thank you for the wonderful sweet treats on Valentines! In preparation for Thursdays quiz, students dedicated review sessions in class to go over comparing, ordering, and identifying equivalent fractions. Next week we will learn about fractions with uncommon denominators on a number line, creating mixed numbers, and understanding improper fractions. After learning these concepts students will take a quiz on Friday (2/23). My hope is they will take their test the following week. **Be on the lookout Wednesday for another parent signature sheet for the quiz they took on Thursday.

In science students immersed themselves in a thorough review focused on understanding how energy transfers during collisions. Animated discussions enhanced their comprehension, paving the way for a deeper appreciation of the intricate dynamics at play in energy transformations between colliding objects. We will conduct our lab next week.

Happy long weekend 4RW families! Next week we will review similes and metaphors in grammar. We will continue working on the comprehension skill of building connections using text to text, text to self, and text to world connections.

We are beginning our new unit in social studies this week as well. Be on the look out for a follow up email in the coming days with more details.

As a reminder, the independent study guide for the Tale of Despereaux will be due on Friday 2/23. We will be having our first book club on Friday 2/23 as well. If students have not finished their ISG and read all of Book the First they will not be able to participate in the book club on Friday 2/23. Students will have their first vocabulary quiz over words from Tale of Despereaux, Book the First, on Wednesday, March 28th.
