Week 2
Week two was a blast! Students have been working hard. A few reminders… Please make sure you are sending hookup changes to both Miss Wicks and Miss Richardson. Both of us need to know where the students need to be for hookup. Our first field trip is on September 13th. We will be going to see Strong Inside performed by the Nashville Children’s Theatre. Mark your calendars because at the end of September we have conferences (September 28th and 29th). We are so excited to have the opportunity to sit down with you!
This week has been busy in the math/science room. In math we began our discussion on number patterns which lead into our lesson on rounding using a number line. This is still a very new concept for our fourth graders and will take some practice. We will continue our discussion of rounding and different methods of solving along with the possibility of a math test on Thursday or Friday. I will make the decision based on how our students are feeling with the topics. In science this week we completed our first science lab. Before the lab began students were shown a rubric of how labs will be graded in fourth grade (similar to how its graded in fifth) to help set them up for success. Students put a paper finger together to understand the concept of how joints, muscles, tendons, and bones work together. Next week we dive into our science class novel, Frank Einstein!
Happy Friday!

We kicked off figurative language this week in ELA! We started by creating our interactive language notebooks. This composition notebook is where we will house our learning about all things writing and grammar. Students learned about similes and practiced creating their own and identifying examples of similes within text. We learned how to make our writing more descriptive by using adjectives to describe nouns. Next week we’ll learn more vocabulary words, read more of Charlotte’s web, and begin our Special Place writing project! In social studies this week we learned about cardinal and intermediate directions. We practiced following directions on a map to get where we need to go. We also reviewed continents and spun the wheel to decide which continent each student will be researching next week! Ask you child which continent they will be researching next week.
Have a fun long weekend!
