Week 14
Coming back from a break always brings excitement in the air. Students rushed in Monday morning wanting to share all their stories of what they did over the break! If you have not seen it yet, Wednesday we sent out our fourth grade newsletter. Be sure to read it over! Before Thanksgiving break two seniors visited our classroom to talk to our fourth grade girls about Girls on the Run. If this is something your daughter is interested in, be sure to reach out to them. Dates are TBD and their emails are on the flyer that was passed out. I (Sydne) will be helping with this program and will be a chaperone!
Katie and I wanted to address two items to keep on your radar. First, winter break will be here before you know it. If you know ahead of time if your child will be not be at school the week of the 11th please let us know in advance so we can make sure all their work has been turned in before they leave. Second, our class play is in February which means we will be giving out parts and the script on the 15th. We want to give these out before the break so they can work on the lines!
** Friday December 8th is causal dress
This week in math we have begun our unit on word problems. Students are doing well and pushing through the steps. We will continue our practice and take a test towards the end of next week. Today we did a fun task around the classroom and hallway. Students answered all kinds of word problems to get them moving and active. When we wrap up word problems we will begin our fractions unit. I encourage you to practice multiplication flashcards at home for a few minutes each night.
We finished our sound waves unit and will take our science test on Wednesday. Please keep encouraging your children to study their science vocabulary. Practicing every day is helpful so they don’t feel pressure the night before the test.

Students completed research for their state poster this week and will begin assembling their posters next week. These will be completed before winter break! Students took their quiz over the Northeast yesterday. Next week they will complete a "scrapbook" over the Midwest, as well as identify the states of the Midwest and their capitals on a map. In ELA we will continue to read our class novel The Great Shelby Holmes and students will take a vocabulary quiz on Wednesday 12/6. Each student submitted a song for the songwriting competition at the Country Music Hall of Fame! We are all eagerly awaiting our field trip on 12/13 to see which students songs are set to music and performed!
As a reminder, state snacks can be sent in any day before Winter break. Please be sure to send in nut-free snacks. I appreciate your consideration in sending utensils/napkins if the snack needs it :)

Happy Weekend!
