Week 1/2
It was the best half week you could dream of! We loved seeing the joy and enthusiasm coming from our students. A few key dates to keep on your radar first. Parent night for fourth grade is next week, Tuesday August 22nd. We are excited for you all to hear all about fourth grade. If you are unable to make it, let Miss Wickes or myself know and we can send your child home with the handouts. Yearbook photos are next week as well (Thursday August 24th). Please make sure students are wearing their white shirt. Group photos are the following Friday, no white shirt is required.
This week in the math/science classroom we focused on how procedures work in a fourth grade math/science room. They are enjoying the independence of fourth grade. We finished setting up our science journals so we can begin our first science lab next week. Students are eager to know which topic we will be learning first. They began their beginning of the year math assessment so I can have a better feeling of where to begin out math lesson next week.
Next week- be on the lookout for some great pictures of our class learning about the human machine!

We had a busy two and a half days in our classroom! We started our short week individually creating goals for 4th grade. Then, we collaborated to decide what our classroom space needed to look like, sound like, and feel like in order for us all to reach our individual goals and to support our classmates as they worked for their goals.
Building off of a read aloud from one of my personal favorite stories, A Letter From Your Teacher on the First Day of School, each student had the opportunity to brainstorm and then write their own personal letter to Miss Wickes. This writing activity is a great way for me to learn about what is important to each student and for them to be able to express their excitements, frustrations, hopes and dreams for fourth grade.
Next week- the real fun begins! Be on the lookout for our first class novel!
