Week 10
Parties, field trips, movies, costumes oh my!!! It has been a week for our 4th graders. The beginning of the week we focused on our rehearsal for Harris Hillman performances. The students did a wonderful job at Harris Hillman and asked amazing questions about the school. We are so excited to take them ice skating after winter break. Thursday we got to watch a third grade play and make fan mail for the students.
Today was so much fun! We loved seeing everyones outfits! Thank you for our classroom party treats! They were yummy. Next week will be calmer with the only event being our Friday assembly.
This week in math we began our discussion on division. Next week we will get deeper into the topic. Along with our discussion of division, we will have another multiplication facts quiz on Wednesday! Make sure you are doing flashcards at home. The more you practice the more confident the student will be. Monday I will give back both quizzes students have taken, be on the lookout for those! Science this week we finished patterns and went into how sound travels. Students created a paper cup telephone to understand vibration and how it travels. They have been given the opportunity to made modifications to it to make it better. I wonder what they will do.

We began our study of regions this week by diving into the geography, culture, and economy of the Southeast. Students labeled the Southeast states and their capitals on a map. They also explored non-fiction text features using our social studies textbooks. Students will have a quiz over the Southeast towards the end of next week. Students will need to be able to correctly label and spell all the states in the Southeast for this quiz.
In ELA we began our Songwriting unit! Students were very excited to learn that they'll write their own original lyrics and submit them to the Country Music Hall of Fame for a chance to have their lyrics turned into a real song. We will travel to the Country Music Hall of Fame on December 13th to conclude our Songwriting Unit.
New class novel.... to be revealed... next week!
